Abstract painting finished and stone carving started

I have been working on this abstract for a while now and am still not positive that I am done with it, but I think so. As usual, I will have to wait a few days to know for sure. I think I will just call it “Study in Blue”. I am taking a week long class in stone carving and today I had a great time. I only hope that I can finish it in the four mornings that I have left. I am really loving it so far. It is kind of scary though since one wrong move and I can mess it up. I also have to think a little differently than I am used to since I have to take away the stone that I do not want instead of adding the parts that I do want. Doesn’t sound like much, but it is really hard to do when you are not used to it! Just the nose alone has been a huge challenge! I will try to post pictures every day this week to show the progress, but if I don’t make it, I will still at least take one each day and then post them all at the end. Oh yes, one more thing. The horns on his hat (yes it is a Viking) will be carved out of horn or antler and then I will attach them to the hat. They will be stronger that way. The stone that I am using is soapstone and it is pretty soft and easy to carve. You can even put a mark on it with your finger nail.
